Achalasia is: Achalasia is a relatively rare disorder of the smooth muscle of the esophagus. The esophagus is a muscular tube that carries food and liquids from the mouth to the stomach. Achalasia makes it difficult for food and liquid to pass into the stomach from the esophagus. This is a relatively rare disorder and it is often difficult to get an early diagnosis of this disease. The mission of this support group is to help people find information and support to help them cope and live with this disorder. We will be updating this website on a regular basis.
